Example

"Production datastore Nimble-01-Customer-01 is getting low on free space (50.2 GB left), and may run out of free disk space completely due to open snapshots."

Threshold

Warning: 10% is free on the production datastore

Error: 5% is free on the production datastore

Summary

During the backup process snapshots are taken of your production virtual machines. The changed blocks are stored in these snapshots during the backup process. Virtual machines with high disk operations can cause the snapshots to grow during the backup operations. EvolveIP recommends 15% free space on the production datastore prior to any snapshots being taken. This will prevent warnings and possible errors during the backup process.

Solution

Remove any virtual machines from vCloud that you are no longer using or need. Remove any ISO or OVA/OVF Templates from vCloud that you are no longer using or need.
If there is nothing to remove to reclaim space please reach out to support@evolveip.net and specify the error you received. EvolveIP will recommend adding enough space to bring you above 15% free on the datastore.
Sometimes you may need more space available depending on the changes within the virtual machine causing the snapshot to be larger than normal. It is best to schedule your backups at a time when there is the least activity on the target virtual machines.
