The Veeam Physical agent is installed on physical or cloud-based workloads to provide off-site backup of files, application data, and entire system-states. These can then be easily restored back to the appropriate systems in the event of an issue. If an entire system failure occurs, using the system-state backup, the entire machine can be restored to bare-metal in a physical or cloud-based environment.
Evolve IP customers with Veeam Phyiscal Agent can log into their self-service portal to create, manage, and run backup jobs, check backup job status, update and edit alarms, and check repository free space. Restores of individual files or application data are done on the source machine directly via the Veeam Backup Agent. Bare-metal restores are done utilizing previously created bootable media and pointing the restore process to the EvolveIP cloud backup repository.
When a backup is initiated, a snapshot is taken against the source machine utilizing technology already built into the guest operating system and then transferred from the source machine to the EvolveIP cloud backup repository. Once the machine disks are done being backed up, the snapshot is removed. Adequate space must be available on the source machine to accommodate for the snapshots.
When needed, files and application data can be restored directly from the Veeam Backup Agent within the guest operating system.
If needed, the entire machine can be restored to bare-metal utilizing bootable media created. If different drivers are needed, those can be added to the system prior to the restore so that RAID or Network systems can be recognized by the restore media.
Backups are created by the system administrator and can be assigned to each machine individually or to entire groups of machines. More than one backup policy can be applied to a machine at a time.
Communication is established by first installing a Master Agent. The Veeam Master Agent will then be used for network discovery. This machine should be able to see all subnets that contain machines that you wish to backup.
The Veeam Master agent will then push a Veeam Management Agent to each machine within the discovery rule. Once installed the individual Veeam Management Agents will connect, download, and install the Veeam Backup Agent.
The Veeam Management Agent is what brokers connections from the Veeam Backup Agent to the EvolveIP Cloud Repository allowing for cloud backups. It is possible to create backup policies that target local storage whether direct connected (external or internal hard drives) or network connected shares.
