To manage Veeam backup agents in the Availability Console, you must deploy two software components on managed computers:

  1. Veeam Management Agent
    1. This software component acts as a broker between the Veeam backup agent and the EvolveIP Availability Console. The management agent is responsible for transmitting commands from the Availability Console to the Veeam backup agent, performing management, software installation and configuration operations on a managed computer, collecting data from Veeam backup agent and communicating it back to the Availability Console.
A master agent is required to discover target systems to be backed up and deploy their management agent respectively. This machine must be able to communicate with all target systems that will be targeted for an automatic deployment. The management agent can also be manually installed if the target machine is unreachable via the master agent.
  2. Veeam Backup Agent
    1. This software component is responsible for all types of data protection and restore operations on a managed computer.
      1. For Windows systems, this can be done via the portal through discovery rules which will push the software to the machines that will be backed up.
      2. For Linux systems, this must be completed by manually updating and installing the components on to the machines that will be backed up.
