Overview

Microsoft Intune is Microsoft's endpoint management solution used to ensure devices, operating systems, and apps are up-to-date, protected, and performant.  This article covers the changes Microsoft made on March 1, 2023.

Intune Product Changes

Microsoft has made the following changes to their Intune product lineup:

  • Renamed Microsoft Intune to Microsoft Intune Plan 1
  • Added a new product:  Microsoft Intune Plan 2
  • Added a new product:  Microsoft Intune Suite
  • Created some new add-on products for Intune Plan 1

* Microsoft Configuration Manager is included in all Plan 1 licenses except Business Premium.


Licensing Rules

Both of the new Intune products are add-ons to Microsoft Intune Plan 1.  In other words, you cannot assign Microsoft Intune Plan 2 licenses or Microsoft Intune Suite licenses to a user account without also assigning Microsoft Intune Plan 1.

Keep in mind that Microsoft Intune Plan 1 is already included in the following subscriptions bundles:

  • Microsoft 365 Business Premium
  • Microsoft 365 E3/E5/F1/F3
  • Enterprise Mobility + Security E3/E5

Therefore, you can add Microsoft Intune Plan 2 or Microsoft Intune Suite to the above subscription bundles.
