KARI'S LAW

Kari's Law, which goes into effect for all systems installed or upgraded after February 16, 2020, is required for all multi line telephone systems (MLTS) and introduces two new requirements:

  1. Per the law, "A user may directly initiate a call to 9-1-1 from any station equipped with dialing facilities, without dialing any additional digit, code, prefix, or post-fix, including any trunk-access code such as the digit ‘9’, regardless of whether the user is required to dial such a digit, code, prefix, or post-fix for other calls." In other words, regardless of any requirements to dial a digit or code to make an outbound call, a user dialing 911 with or without the prefix should have the call complete to an emergency operator.
  2. The system must provide the ability to send "Notification to a central location at the facility where the system is installed or to another person or organization regardless of location, if the system is able to be configured to provide the notification without an improvement to the hardware or software of the system." In other words, some notification to a designated person should be made available.

Evolve IP is fully compliant with these requirements. You may login to OSSMosis to manage your Emergency Notifications under Location Settings.

RAY BAUM'S ACT

Ray Baum's Act, which goes into effect on January 6, 2021 for "Fixed Multi-line Telephone Systems (MLTS)" and January 6, 2022 for "Non-fixed Multi-line Telephone Systems (MLTS)" requires that calls to 911 include a '“Dispatchable location” is conveyed with 911 calls, regardless of the technological platform used, so that 911 call centers will receive the caller’s location automatically and can dispatch responders more quickly. “Dispatchable location” is defined as “the street address of the calling party, and additional information such as room number, floor number, or similar information necessary to adequately identify the location of the calling party.”

Evolve IP is fully compliant with the requirements at this time and will be updating OSSmosis prior to January 2021 to allow clients to manage the specific physical location (within an address).
